In 480 B.C., 300 Spartan soldiers and a few hundred of their
fellow citizens set their battle line on a narrow plain in northern Greece called Thermopylae. To their left, a sheer cliff.
To their right, a sharp drop to the sea. In front of them, an invading army some say was 200 times their size.
For
three long days, they held their ground, buying valuable time for their countrymen and earning a place in the hearts of all
who love freedom. Many believe the Battle of Thermopylae was the first true stand for liberty and democracy in human history,
and the very foundation of western civilization.
